Job Description
The birthplace of Silicon Valley, Palo Alto is a community of approximately 68,000 residents and nearly 100,000 jobs located on the mid-Peninsula between San Francisco and San Jose. The City recently added a second Assistant Director in Community Services to oversee arts, sciences, inclusion, and accessibility. The new Assistant Director will manage 54 FTEs and an $8.8M operating budget.
Palo Alto seeks an energetic, fair, creative, and culturally aware community services professional who understands and values the importance of arts and sciences for everyone. A results-oriented leader with solid business acumen will join a capable staff who are experts in their field. Experience effectively working with commissions, boards, and volunteer groups while balancing interests and priorities is crucial. Successful candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree and eight years of experience overseeing cultural facilities and programs (i.e., visual/performing arts, museums, and community service or related experience), including five years at a management level. A Master’s degree is preferred.
