Former Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub has been appointed to the city manager’s position in Ventura.
Ayub’s contract was approved Tuesday, effective immediately. He’ll earn an annual salary of $280,000 plus benefits.
The vote to hire Ayub was 6-1 with Councilmember Liz Campos dissenting. She said constituents had expressed concerns about his law enforcement background.
Ayub headed the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department from 2018 to 2023. He was previously Assistant Sheriff. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from CSU Northridge and a master's degree in emergency services administration from CSU Long Beach.
Ventura’s last city manager Alex McIntyre resigned in December after being placed on leave. The city has cycled through three interim appointments since.
