Lodi City Manager Steve Schwabauer has confirmed that his city was hit by a cyber attack earlier this year, in which the perpetrators demanded Bitcoin as ransom.
According to Schwabauer, it was this attack that affected operation of the city’s computer systems in April and May. The ransomers targeted the city’s financial data systems, as well as its phone lines. The price for returning control of the system to city officials? 75 BTC.
The city is implementing sweeping new security measures in the wake of the attack.
