If anyone knows how to handle a drive-thru line, it’s the people at Chick-fil-A. So when Mount Pleasant, SC Mayor Will Haynie needed someone to manage the town’s drive-up vaccination event, he turned to the popular fast food chain for help.
The idea came to Haynie spontaneously after the town’s vaccine event hit a major snag. A computer glitch led to a traffic jam at the vaccination drive-thru. People were waiting over an hour to get their shots and dropping out of the event as a result.
The quick-thinking mayor called Jerry Walkowiak, who manages the Chick-fil-A across the street, and asked him for help. It was one request Jerry probably never expected to hear, but he was happy to oblige.
Now viral video shows Jerry standing in the rain, helping to direct cars through the vaccination line. Jerry got each person in and out in 15 minutes, according to Mayor Haynie.
“When you need help," he said, "call the pros.”
