Former Menifee Mayor Scott Mann is facing a $60,000 fine for using campaign cash to fund a number of personal expenses, including his attendance at a family wedding in Malibu. The Fair Political Practices Commission says he dipped into his campaign funds for personal reasons more than 145 times between December 2009 and June 2014.
In all, $44,894 in personal expenses were reportedly billed to Mann’s campaign accounts. He also failed to maintain records of his spending as required.
Mann lost his bid for re-election last month. He resigned shortly thereafter following formal censure by the city council. The FPPC investigation played a central role in both outcomes.
The proposed penalty is expected to be approved at the commission’s meeting on Dec. 15.
