A number of states are stepping in to provide assistance to local governments facing increased cybersecurity threats.
A recent report from the National Governors Association and the National Association of State Chief Information Officers shows 65% of states provide some cybersecurity services to their local governments today. The level of that assistance varies greatly, however.
California, Illinois, Iowa, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania are among the states helping cities and counties combat cyber criminals. As Pew Trusts notes, state lawmakers gave Lodi, California a half-million-dollar grant to revamp its cybersecurity measures after it became the victim of ransomware.
