Compton City Manager Thomas Thomas was fired on Tuesday, following a closed session of the City Council. He had held the position for just over a year.
The agenda for Tuesday’s meeting listed a public employee performance evaluation for the city manager and discipline/dismissal/release, as well as the appointment of a new city manager. The vote to terminate Thomas was 5-0.
During the same meeting, Jerry Groomes was appointed Compton’s top administrator. Groomes previously served as city manager in 2016. He spent many years managing the City of Carson and recently served as Interim City Manager in Bell. He will serve a term of six months.
Appearing before the dais, Groomes vowed to help Compton get things done and find a “new city manager who can make a difference here.”
