Ahhh, peace and quiet. It’s one thing we trade for the culture and convenience of urban life. But we give up a lot more, depending on where we live. Some cities are mildly — even pleasantly — noisy. Others are so loud that they can cause damage to our hearing over time.
According to Forbes Health, Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario is the biggest culprit in the nation. It has the highest potential to damage hearing of any other U.S. metro, according to the publication.
Here’s why:
“The area ranks seventh overall in terms of its density of restaurants (8,629 per 100,000 businesses) and transportation and warehouse establishments (6,145 per 100,000 businesses). It also ranks 13th overall for density of casinos and casino-hotels, with about 16 per 100,000 businesses.”
In other words, it’s fun?
The good news for health-conscious folks is that it was the only California metro to make the top 20.
The second-noisiest place in California was Bakersfield. It ranked 22nd nationwide. Sacramento-Roseville-Arden-Arcade ranked third in the state and 32nd nationally.
