El Segundo City Manager Scott Mitnick is parting ways with the city, the Daily Breeze reports. The cause and nature of his departure is unknown, but the city council met earlier this month to discuss his performance. El Segundo said it cannot legally comment on the matter.
Mitnick was hired by El Segundo in 2019 to replace Greg Carpenter. Mitnick had previously held the city manager’s job in Thousand Oaks. Before that, he worked for the cities of Brea, Burbank, and Sutter County.
Mitnick was terminated from his job in Thousand Oaks following some controversies involving his son's baseball activities. Mitnick had used his city email account to secure donations for his son’s school baseball team. He also helped deny a $20,000 grant to the school’s booster club after expressing displeasure with the club and its coaching staff.
Despite the controversy, El Segundo was impressed by Mitnick’s experience in the public sector, with Mayor Drew Boyles lauding his “compelling vision” and ability to achieve results.
El Segundo’s Chief Financial Officer Joe Lillio has been named Acting City Manager.
