EQUITY AND INCLUSION OFFICER AD

The City of Hayward is seeking an innovative, strategic and collaborative leader with a demonstrated commitment to ensuring equity in the delivery of municipal services to serve as the Equity and Inclusion Officer. Under the general direction of the Assistant City Manager, the Equity and Inclusion Officer serves as the key strategist for the City’s overall diversity, racial, equity, inclusion and justice efforts.  The Equity and Inclusion Officer will join a city with an executive leadership team committed to providing excellent services to the entire Hayward community.  The City of Hayward, with an estimated population of 158,241 is strategically positioned at the epicenter of Alameda County in a metropolitan area known for innovation, bold thinking and entrepreneurship.  As the sixth largest municipality in the SF Bay Area.  Hayward is  home for a range of community-wide events and provides countless opportunities to unify residents in a celebration of community spirit.  To learn more about this dynamic city, visit the City of Hayward’s website at www.hayward-ca.gov.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging professional who is a confident and inspiring visionary leader. A culturally competent individual with outstanding people and management skills.  An engaging and charismatic person who also is data and outcome driven with an explicit commitment to advancing equity and justice solutions.  The preferred individual will be able to investigate, interpret and analyze data to prepare recommendations while infusing best practices within an office created to ensure that long-term or near-term plans fully reflect, and are inspired by, an equity lens.  The successful candidate will be politically astute, but apolitical, with a level of sophistication and emotional intelligence in working effectively with diverse stakeholders in highly political environments. 

Any combination equivalent experience in education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would qualify including: Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in administrative work implementing and/or developing programs, with at least one (1) year experience in a lead/supervisory capacity, equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in public administration, business administration, ethnic studies, organizational psychology, or a closely related field.  A Master’s degree is desirable.
