Some California jurisdictions were hit by ransomware attacks late last year and experts expect these operations to ramp up in 2020.
In Contra Costa County, hackers targeted 26 library branches, according to KGO. The breach was first detected in Martinez. Officials soon discovered it was more widespread. Library account holders received emails notifying them of the attack. Wi-Fi and printing services remained down for days.
The Enterprise-Record reports that Chico’s Enloe Medical Center was also a victim of cyber criminals. The website MSSPAlert.com reports that seal Beach was hit in December as well.
In addition to the late year attacks on cities, counties, and hospitals, the San Bernardino City Unified School District was infected by malware in the fall.
