The City of San Rafael is seeking a strategic and organized Assistant Public Works Director/City Engineer (Assistant Director) to fill a critical leadership role in the Department of Public Works (DPW). This individual will be a visionary leader and motivator, keeping essential City projects moving forward to successful completion. The key responsibility of this position is to oversee all three divisions within Engineering: Capital Improvement Program (CIP), Traffic, and Land Development. They will develop their team as a manager and mentor, answering questions and making important decisions about project budgets and timelines while making technical recommendations. The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of Public Works (Director) and oversees 11 engineers as well as external consultants who will support the Department’s design work. The desired candidate will have a blend of both technical proficiency and interpersonal skills, as the City is looking for an engaging, kind, communicative, and dynamic leader.
